Enhancing the image has resulted in the inner city details becoming much more visible, even the National airport and the Pentagon which can be identified by their distinct shapes. The two main rivers are clearly visible, the Potomac River which flows from the upper left to lower right of the image, and is joined from the right by the smaller Anacostia River. Several bridges can also been seen crossing the Potomac River. Washington D.C. is located where the river widens and shows as a grey/green colour. The red patches within the image represent vegetated areas. The large red patch in the centre of the image is the East Potomac Golf Course and is separated from the rest of the city by a smaller water channel. Now have a look at this tutorial and learn more about the basics of remote sensing, in particular image analysis and then test yourself on the whiz quiz NOW THAT YOU HAVE LOOKED AT BOTH AERIAL PHOTOGRAPHY AND SATELLITE IMAGERY MOVE ON TO THE 'GIS' SECTION. |
