This is an image of the electromagnetic spectrum, illustrating the many forms electromagnetic energy. Visible light is only one of the many forms of this type of energy, others include, Radio waves, Ultra Violet rays, X-rays and heat. The most common sensing systems operate in one or several of the visible, Infrared (IR) or microwave portions of the spectrum.
