Vallouise is a small village located in the outer zone of the Ecrins
National Park. It offers a gateway to the highly protected inner zone
of the Park and to the glaciers located close to the Barre des Ecrins.
Vallouise has one of the National Park visitors’ centers.
The village acts today as a market center and river crossing point. It is situated deep in the valley bottom surrounded by high mountain peaks. Tourism has become the main activity in the areas, with winter sports developing close by. Summer activities including hiking, climbing and water sports can also be found locally.
