This is an historic town located on a spur of hard rock overlooking the Romanche Valley, south and east of the Ecrins National Park. The town of Embrun has a rich tradition as a market place, a Christian center and more recently as a tourist location. It lies close to several ski resorts and Serre Ponçon lake and so attracts many visitors in summer and winter.
