Some areas have richer grasslands, this is due to the downwash of dissolved minerals and soil particles from lime rich rocks found on Twll Du's cliffs. Grassland looks greener than those dominated by mat-grass on acid soils. (The inverted V's painted on rocks are markers of sheep census plots on which sheep grazing on different grasses are counted weekly, under different rainfalls).
