Glacial Moraine are elongated mounds of debris which were formed by rock-falls and glacial erosion from the adjacent slopes. The smaller mounds near the lake heads are also morainic.

The rocky upper slopes are relatively inaccessible to sheep, so more heather and bilberry are found. Lower slopes are greener than elsewhere (downwash). Growing on some ledges are rowan, which have survived as sheep were unable to reach the seedlings. These moraines probably date to the Late Glacial (~10 300 years b.p).
