S wall of Cwm Idwal - view up Idwal Slabs. L limb of the central syncline. Steeply inclined (dipping at 55-60°), parallel bedding planes of Lower Rhyolitic Tuffs. Glacial erosion at the base of these cliffs would destabilise the rock along fracture planes leading to rockfalls and the freshly exposed bedding planes. Good evidence of a geological and structural control on erosion within the Cwm.
