SW view from entrance to Cwm Idwal cirque (near outlet stream of Llyn Idwal). Classic glacial cirque, now occupied by Llyn Idwal offering, microcosm of montane glacial landforms (Addison, 1997). Excavated during the Pleistocene glacial phases culminating with the last glacial maximum (late Devensian). Excavated along the central syncline and through the affects of a diffluent flow over the top of the backwall during glacial maxima. View exhibits all the key features of a cirque - "horse-shoe" shape, steep backwall, cliffs, scree, rockfall, moraines, tarn etc. Specific features to note are the central syncline axis, Twll Du and rockfall, lateral moraine to R, "hummocky" moraine mounds in centre below rockfall and Llyn Idwal in foreground.
